The Ogburn School was founded in 1998 by Minnie Ogburn, with a primary goal of providing a quality and safe educational alternative to traditional learning. As a parent, former teacher and curriculum coordinator, Ms. Ogburn recognized the need for a better distance learning platform. Her daughter, Brandy Carvalho, joined shortly after that to utilize her program management and communication skills to streamline and advance this new distance learning platform. After years of providing distance learning opportunities to thousands of students, The Ogburn School was one of the first, accredited, schools to provide a fully online learning platform and dedicated learning management system.

The Ogburn Online School now has an entire staff of teachers, instructors, learning coaches, administrator professionals, academic guidance counselors, testing managers, course designers, success coaches, a registrar, admissions specialists, admissions directors, customer service representatives, billing and finance professionals, and support staff members that are all here to help provide a better, safer and quality education to our students.

As one of the top online schools, The Ogburn School is regionally, nationally, and internationally accredited which allows us to provide enrollment options to students all over the world. Our learning management system was designed to be user-friendly, so students of all ages, from kindergarten to 12th grade can hop on and start working and the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) can log on and keep track of progress and grades with ease. We have also integrated a Message Center into the online profiles so contacting a teacher, advisor, or the Help Center can all be done with ease.

About Our Founders

Minnie Ogburn holds an EdD from the University of Florida, where her research focused on homeschooling, distance education, online and blended learning. She also earned an EdS in curriculum and instruction from the University of Florida, a Master of Administration from Central Michigan University, and Bachelors in Business Administration from Jones College. During her teaching career, she taught at the elementary, middle and high school level. She also served as a curriculum coordinator at charter schools.

Brandy Carvalho has over 25 years of experience in program management and communications and has experience in marketing for private and nonprofit organizations. Her career also includes working in education, conservation and community organizations. Brandy studied Wildlife Ecology and Public Relations at the University of Florida and holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from Florida Gulf Coast University.
